Community Partner Profile:
The Learn & Grow Educational SeriesTM

Superior 1 Service Plumbing proudly partners with the Learn & Grow Educational Series, a non-profit program of food security and sustainability instruction headquartered in Camarillo, and La Carreta, a Salvadoran restaurant in Thousand Oaks, to provide water-conservative self-watering gardening containers to programs that serve the food-insecure members of our local communities and teach them how to grow their own food, no matter where they live.

We volunteer our time to recycle used cheese buckets from La Carreta that would otherwise end up in a landfill and turn them into rugged, food-safe, self-watering gardening containers for growing fruits, vegetables, and herbs, as well as flowers and succents.

We partner to teach classes in the community to children and their families on self-watering container gardening, including basic permaculture strategies and gardening advice.

We also donate self-watering gardening containers to other non-profit groups addressing food insecurity in our local communities. We appreciate referrals to food banks, shelters, and other facilities addressing food insecurity that can benefit from donated self-watering gardening containers.

We sell built and hand-decorated self-watering containers to help cover the costs of building and donating containers to food-insecure members of our local communities and teaching how-to classes to kids and families.

We offer instructional booklets and include a quick-start guide with each donated and purchased self-watering container. You can view and download the PDFs of each here:

These amazing planters use as much as 80% less water than growing the same foods in the ground! This method of gardening aligns with our future focus on water conservation and meeting the needs of our local communities.
